Four Star performance from Eleven professionals

Wigan 0 - 4 Arsenal

Apologies for the delay in Saturday's match review but a lack of technology has meant that I was unable to post on the blog...where's a pigeon when you need one!  No worries though because the Arsenal overcame their slight blip against Fulham the previous week and romped away with what was a very easy and convincing 4-0 win courtesy of four different goal scorers.  Wigan, barring the first ten minutes, offered little resistance, and will probably be relegated this season.   With the teams ahead of us all winning this was as an important a result as it was a performance and we duly obliged.

The Good

There were no standout performers - the first XI (Arsene's selection policy over the last few months has made that pretty obvious) just went about their business with a degree of efficiency, control and complete lack of histrionics.  This team is finding its feet, finding its range and dare I say it....finding its mojo.  This was a solid, unspectacular performance; the kind that has commentators gushing about teams such as Man Utd being performances that win silverware.  theo even managed to get RVP his obligatory goal - almost as though he felt sorry that RVP has gone on a one game goal drought and he had to relieve the pressure on the Dutchman to score...RVP's celebrations with Theo showcasing this team's teamwork.

The Bad

We have now won six out of the last seven league games so now is not the time nor place to pick holes in our game  and anlyse them to death.  That will be for when times get tough again as they undoubtedly will as the season progresses towards squeaky bum time.

The 'Unarsenal Arsenal'

Four goals away from home! In losing Cesc and Nasri weren't we supposed to have lost all of our attacking intent?

A clean sheet away from home!  Who says we have defensive worries and need Gary Cahill? Didn't he get sent-off this weekend?

An Arteta thunderbolt (ok so that's a bit of an exaggeration!) from 25 yards - aren't we the team that is afraid to shoot from outside the box?

A Vermaelen header from a corner - omg we scored from a corner! Are we now becoming Stoke?

A Gervinho tap in! I was so happy for him when he scored but then watched the slow-mo replays and he scuffed his shot ino the ground so was fortunate; but we'll take goals like these becasue Man Utd and Chelsea have been scoring them for the last six years and they have done ok.  By the way, the 33 passes that led up to this goal - now that's the Arsenal way!

Another Theo assist and RVP goal - I will never get tired of seeing these two combine to such good effect.

Tonight is a chance for the non first XI to show what they are made of away to Olympiakos.  After the technique and industry they shown against Man City in the Carling Cup, here's hoping to another good performance and one which is rightly rewarded this time.
